BEFORE MAP TESTING - Always set a goal with your scholars!
- PRINT OUT the report - STUDENT GOAL SETTING WORKSHEET - for each scholar in your classes. Be sure to set the date for this report to FALL 20___ to SPRING 20___ before printing them out.
- Set a goal for each scholar. That would be the PROJECTED RIT printed (indicated by the dotted line) on the report.
- Discuss the GROWTH he/she made last year indicated by RIT GROWTH on the report. Celebrate if it's positive growth. If it's a negative, talk about that and provide encouragement/incentive to do better this year.
- Give the scholar a copy of this report to take home.
TESTING on the CHROMEBOOK & CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
1. Scholars are to use the APPS shortcut on the Chromebook to access the MAP testing window. They DO NOT SIGN IN to the Chromebook. If they are signed in, they need to SIGN OUT of it. Click on the APPS icon located at the bottom left of their Chromebook.
*This will ensure that they stay on the MAP testing secure website and not visiting other websites while testing. Located at the bottom left of the Chromebook.
2. Set up your classroom for testing. DESKS SHOULD BE IN ROWS so that you can easily view their screen at ALL TIMES from the back of the classroom.
|
3. STAND IN THE BACK OF THE CLASSROOM watching that each scholar is testing and not visiting other webpages. FYI - If they SIGNED OUT of their Chromebook and activate MAP testing under APPS, they will not be able to visit another webpage. Also, check to make sure that each scholar is testing under his/her own name. CHECK for the scholar's name at the bottom of the testing window.
4. MAINTAIN A QUIET TESTING ENVIRONMENT for your scholars during and after testing.
5. WHEN TESTING IS COMPLETE, the scholar closes his/her Chromebook. CHROMEBOOKS ARE TO BE AT ZERO after testing. ZERO means CLOSED. Scholars are to READ a paperback book after testing. NO MUSIC! NO GAMING! NO ELECTRONICS! NOTHING!!
6. Schedule make-up sessions for those scholars who were absent on testing day, OR did not finish the test.

MAP DATA: What does it say?
View this video after you have completed MAP TESTING. NOTE: It will be important to have your CLASS REPORT already printed out and with you when you view this video. Video on Goal Setting & Skills - Using the Student Goal Setting Worksheet to set a goal for the next MAP testing session. NOTE: When Descartes is referenced in the video, just remember it has just changed its name to the LEARNING CONTINUUM.
A Lexile range will be printed on the MAP READING report. You can encourage scholars to read within that range to improve upon their reading skills. It is best if they read in the lower end of their range as it is where they will experience greater success with reading. Reading in the high end of the Lexile range might prove too difficult for a scholar to handle.
FIND THE RIGHT BOOK FOR YOUR READING LEVEL. Have parents and scholars go to Lexile.com to find books in their range. |
