Hallmarks to Blended Learning
- Strong connection between online & offline work.
- Increased student to student AND teacher to student collaboration & increased student control of time, pace, place or path of learning
- Online classroom presence - use of a LMS system (Learning Management) - Google Classroom, Canvas, Collaborize Classroom
- Repurposed time - time saved from not always being on the "stage" lecturing can be used for small group work, working with students individually, provide more time for student collaboration & problem-solving activities
In Summary
Blended learning is NOT about the technology; it's about instructional design. Technology is leveraged intentionally to restructure the classroom to increase student involvement, engagement and input. It's all about good teaching. Making the most of our online and face-to-face teaching environment. It's about deliberate & careful instructional planning. Putting content online to take advantage of the opportunities this setting provides while putting other activities in the face-to-face setting to leverage the opportunities this setting provides. Simply, blending the two together to maximize what each has to offer providing the best learning experiences for our students.

If you want your entire class to have an Ipad, contact me. I have a set of 33 Ipads for checkout. However, you will need to book the media center to use these. They can not be moved to your classroom. |

Camtasia,Screencast-O-Matic, SnagIt, and Office Mix provides a simple solution for teachers to create instructional videos.
TABLET SOFTWARE
Tools like Knowmia and Explain Everything allow the teacher to create content similar to the videos made using screencasting tools.
CAMERA-BASED
Some teachers choose to forego software-based solutions and opt for the video camera. Camera-created videos can be as simple as using the video camera in a smartphone or tablet, or even a consumer-grade handheld camera. See Katie Gimbar videos below. She uses the camera approach.

Regardless of which techniques you utilize, here are some simple guidelines to follow for creating great content:
- Record in a quiet room with a decent microphone.
- If using a camera or device in a picture mode, record in a well-lit area without distracting backgrounds.
- Utilize slide decks that are not distracting and have contrasting backgrounds and fonts.
- Create a balanced mix of text, oral communication, pictures, video, and music. Use enough features to make your content engaging without being distracting.
